Liberty’s Promise

Liberty's Promise supports young immigrants in need while encouraging them to be active and conscientious American citizens. Our programs aim to make the immigrant experience an affirmative one for young newcomers while instilling in them a sense of pride and support for American ideals of democracy and freedom. By doing so, Liberty’s Promise seeks to reaffirm our fundamental egalitarian and democratic traditions for future generations.

In our flagship program, we help immigrant youth engage with their new community and plan for their future in the United States. Through educating youth about their opportunities, we see increases in school attendance, grades, and self-esteem, helping them succeed in their studies.

Civic Engagement for Beginning English Language Learners (CE-BELL) is a Spanish Language version of our Civics and Citizenship program, which is explicitly designed for this steadily growing population of low-level (I-II) ESOL students.

Our internship program places low-income, documented, immigrant youth in six or eight week-long internships with local businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits. In taking part, they develop a better understanding of the American workplace.

In the modified version of our flagship program, we help middle school immigrant youth engage with their new community and plan for their future in the United States. By starting our work with immigrant youth before they reach high school, we can educate and prepare them for obstacles they will face and decisions they will make to determine their futures.

“If someone asks me how Liberty’s Promise impacted our lives, I say simply, it made us visible again. It gave us back the feeling that we are people, that we deserve attention and support, because we are immigrants, but above all we are human beings.”
